Verrutop is a painless drying treatment for verrucae and warts. It is applied in clinic, usually weekly, with minimal aftercare or dressings, and it is best suited to shallow verrucae.
How Verrutop works
Verrucae are warts on the foot, caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They can be stubborn because the skin on the foot is thicker and walking pushes them into the skin, and because they are not always on view, they can be there for some time before they are noticed.
The virus lives inside the body’s cells, which makes it difficult for the immune system to recognise and react to it. Treatment often aims to destroy the skin that contains the virus.
Verrutop uses a solution called Nitrizinc Complex, which reacts with the viral DNA and causes the verruca to dehydrate.
- In clinic. We apply Verrutop to the verruca or wart, usually once a week.
- At home in between. Apply a dab of surgical spirit or alcohol hand gel to the area each day.
- Review. We check progress at each visit. A course is usually around six sessions.
